ENCANA HIGH SCHOOL EDUCATIONAL BURSARY PROGRAM - $10,000 over 4 years
Awarded annually to one graduating high school student within the Wolf Creek School Division No.72, with payments of $2,500 per year for up to 4 years. The scholarship is intended to assist students pursuing post-secondary education in an oil & gas industry-related field through a degree, diploma or certificate program. Some examples of this would include, but are not limited to: Geology, Petroleum Engineering Technology, Heavy Equipment Operator, Surface Land, Engineering, or Geophysics. All eligible schools in the division (currently Lacombe, Ponoka, Bentley, Alix, Eckville and Rimbey) submit their top candidate and the superintendent will select the recipient. Application available (go to Documents). Applications must be submitted by March 19th to the Career Centre.
SUNNY 94 SCHOLARSHIP - $277
The successful WCPS candidate must be able to demonstrate an active commitment to the fine arts, and/or communication activities and wanting to pursue communications or fine arts training; must be enrolled in a post secondary program within 12 months of receiving the scholarship. Application available in Documents. Deadline for application is April 30. Please submit application to the Career Centre.

News from Red Deer College for Grade 12 Students Planning to attend Fall 2010
1) The Practical Nurse program is waitlisting.
2) The Unit Clerk program is now closed.
3) Students who have applied for the Bachelor of Science Nursing for Fall 2010 must have an unofficial transcript in by March 1st which includes their Fall 2009 semester final grades.

University of Calgary
On Thursday, March 4th, from 5:00 - 7:00 pm, the University of Calgary will be in Red Deer helping students apply to the U of C. If you have already applied and would like help checking your application, please attend. If you haven't applied and would like to come to start the process, please register to attend. University of Alberta
Students who have applied and been accepted by the University of Alberta for fall 2010 are invited to attend a free timetable planning session at Lindsay Thurber Comprehensive High on April 19 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. Students must pre- register with Lori Irvine at lirvine@rdpsd.ab.ca.
University of Alberta Wisest (Women in Scholarship, Engineering, Science and Technology) Program
The Wisest Summer Reseach Program is an interactive research experience for Grade 11 students wanting a chance to learn about science, engineering and technology; to experience research hands-on in a university lab; and to develop the skills needed to succeed in a non-tradiitonal role.

University of Alberta - Entrance Leadership Scholarship
Have your students tried to save the world? Have they taken the lead in a community project? Or coached a sports team? Have they stayed involved in their school, their community, their team and headed efforts in helping them reach their goals? If they have, they may be eligible for the University of Alberta’s Entrance Leadership Scholarship. Ranging from $2,750 to $20,000, the Entrance Leadership Scholarship competition looks for students with outstanding leadership qualities and at least an 80% awards average. Shad Valley Shad Valley is a four week summer enrichment program. Students spend a month living in residence at one of our host university campuses across Canada. The program is offered to students currently completing grade 10, 11 or 12.
With a focus that includes the sciences, technology and entrepreneurship, the program provides an academically stimulating, mind expanding adventure for top well-rounded students. Students will also enjoy recreational activities and the opportunity to explore local attractions.

A Quick Note on Post Secondary & Scholarship Deadlines/Applications
The Wolf Creek Career Centre website contains a variety of information and links to resources geared toward assisting grade 12 students as they explore their post grade 12 options. It is a starting point for students to begin researching career possibilities, post secondary schools and scholarships. We endeavor to keep the information current and complete, however, ultimately the grade 12 student is responsible to get involved in researching their options. Here are a couple of quick tips to help you in your search:
Post Secondary Institutions
1. Check the University/College website often for program information applications & deadlines. Check out the Alberta Post Secondary link. Check the calendar for application acceptance dates for 2010-11. Most Univeristy applications are now completed on online. Deadline dates for colleges and university applications will be posted on the
calendar. For more information, go directly online to the Post Secondary Institution you are interested in attending
Scholarships
2. There are a PILE of scholarships out there. A great starting point is with the scholarship resources. Check out the scholarship links for your school as well as the broader area scholarship categories. Another great starting point is with the ALIS Website. Note that there are WAY too many scholarships
for us to keep tack of and that many of the applications are now online. Be sure to do your research!
3. If you need help filling out Post Secondary/Scholarship applications - go see the Career Consultant in your school
Residence
4. Are you planning to live in residence? Do not wait for acceptance into a Post Secondary Institution. Once you apply to a Post Secondary Institution, you should also apply for residence.
